Volunteering

How Do I Volunteer at an ALA Conference?

First, thank you for your interest in volunteering!

To date, there is only one permanently established and formal program for volunteering at an ALA conference - the ALA Student-to-Staff Program, active only for the Annual Conference.

The Student-to-Staff program is offered exclusively to ALA Student Chapters who can nominate 40 library students to assist the ALA staff during the ALA Annual Conferences. If the selected students meet the criteria established under the program, they will receive free conference registration, housing, and a per diem for meal expenses, in exchange for a four hour work day - a total of 16 hours during the Conference.

Nominations begin in October and participants are notified by January of each year. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact your ALA Student Chapter.
